ALWAYS...
• Know where your nearest emergency exits are
• Follow the instructions of Security Personnel, Police or other officials
• Move away promptly from any danger
• Notify a Steward, Police or Official if you see any any antisocial behaviour
• Move to where there is more space, should a crowd surge occur
• Ask for help if you need it and help others, especially if someone falls
• Stay calm (if you are distressed, ask to be taken to the Welfare Tent)
Once on site it is important to plan your day. Obviously the priority is making sure you get to see the acts that mean the most to you – come back to the festival website a few days before the show and all band times will be listed so you can plan in advance.
Don’t forget some other basics though – If you are with friends & are camping together or travelling home together - arrange a place & time to meet up at the end of the night.
Large crowds, a long day & hot weather in combination will tire you out. Make sure you pace yourself, drink plenty of water, eat some food that will give you some energy & minimize sun exposure.
DRUG & ALCOHOL ACTION TEAM
The police and the Leicestershire Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT) are using cutting edge technology to get crime prevention and sensible drinking messages through to people at this year’s Download music festival.
Workers from the Drug Intervention Programme will be walking around Donington Park using four portable Bluetooth boxes, each with the capability of sending quick-fire messages to mobile phones within a 25m radius. They will be working in a shift pattern from 10am until 2am on each day of the festival.
People with Bluetooth enabled mobiles will receive a note asking them if they want to receive a message.
If they accept, they will be sent the animated message, which will contain information on a range of topics, including crime prevention and advice on alcohol and drug use. As the messages are sent using Bluetooth technology and not SMS, they will cost nothing for phone uses to receive.
Nick Jones, an Alcohol Strategy Officer with Leicestershire Drug and Alcohol Action Team, said; "All partners involved believe the use of Bluetooth technology is a really exciting opportunity to get key personal safety, as well as drug and alcohol harm reduction messages, to the revellers throughout the duration of the festival. The messages will be quirky; they will raise a laugh in the spirit of the festival, but will also contain some useful tips to ensure that festival goers have a perfect Download."
There will also be team of Drug and Alcohol Advice workers on site to provide specialist advice on substance misuse and harm reduction to anyone who requires support during the event.
ILLEGAL DRUGS
Drugs, hard or soft, are no more legal at festivals than they are anywhere else the same penalties and risks apply. Festivals and large crowds can be disorientating experiences this is definitely not the place to start experimenting. And remember, there are film crews, security staff and police throughout the site and surrounding area its not exactly secluded!
After all this however, don't be afraid to tell medical staff or stewards if something is going wrong. - There will also be team of Drug and Alcohol Advice workers on site to provide specialist advice on substance misuse and harm reduction to anyone who requires support during the event.

The police in Leicestershire want you to follow them on Facebook and Twitter this year for top tips on how to keep safe and secure at Download 2012.
DC Kev Walker said; “Download is a really good natured event to police and we want people to come to the festival and have great time, we don’t want them to have their stuff stolen so our message is really simple, please leave valuable items at home or use the onsite security lockers and we’re urging those people who arrive by car not to leave their belongings on display or their vehicle unlocked.”
Leicestershire Constabulary has been planning its operation for Download for some months now – its main aim is to reduce crime and make sure everyone has a great time.
DC Walker added; “Last year. Facebook and twitter enabled us to talk to fans across the country and answer their questions about security and crime prevention before they got to Donington. Judging from the comments posted on the site it was really well received so we are hoping to build on that again this year. We’ve put lots of photos on our pages from the policing operation last year; the aerial pictures of the campsite are well worth a look.”
Inspector Chris Brown, who’s in charge of policing Download, said; “As always, we are looking forward to policing Download again this year and meeting as many people as possible. We’ll have uniformed and plain clothed patrols on all the campsites and car parks throughout the festival to keep you safe and make sure you have a great time. You’ll be pleased to know we had very few tent thefts last year but we do rely on you keeping your personal belongings safe and taking your stuff out of your car when you park and not leaving anything on display.
Find them on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/downloadcops or on Twitter at @Downloadcops.
Download Crime Prevention Advice- Use the on-site lockers for your personal belongings; don’t leave anything in your tent when you are not in it. You can either book a locker in advance through your ticket provider or buy one when you arrive for £5.
- If you can’t take your valuables with you when you leave the tent, leave them at home.
- Put money, tickets, credit cards and mobile phones in a zipped pocket or use a money belt.
- Do not bring large sums of cash. Only bring what you need and keep it on you at all times.
- Postcode the property you do bring to Download so that it is identifiable.
- If you arrive by car, don’t leave anything on display in your vehicle including sat navs, car stereos, CDs or mobile phones. Don’t put items in your glove box or the boot, this is the first place a thief will look. Take everything with you or leave it at home.
Security staff and police officers will be patrolling both the camp sites and the car parks and each campsite will have a ‘hub’ with a ‘hub’ manager where people can go to report problems. The mobile police station will be on the site which will be used as a reporting centre if anyone needs to report a crime. Community volunteers will also be working on the site giving out crime prevention leaflets and post coding your property if visitors have forgotten to do it before they arrive.
CROWD CONTROL
Security will have discretionary powers to restrict crowd numbers plus people who are too small or young, intoxicated, aggressive or possibly drug affected, incapacitated, in a wheelchair or on crutches.
Crowd surfing and moshing are dangerous to yourself and others and may result in eviction without a refund, so don’t do it.

From time to time you may not be happy with the service you received from the Security Staff, if you would like to give us your constructive feedback then please click hereWe have very welcoming neighbours at Donington, amongst some beautiful farmland; however, we are in the countryside, be careful and keep noise to a minimum when leaving the festival area.
We want to come back next year, so anyone found on private property, pitching their tent or making what seems like a crafty shortcut, will be dealt with by the authorities and you won't get any sympathy from us! Use our campsite and our car parks that way, you won't have your car impounded or tent removed!Should you have any questions about the festival that are not answered here, please email info@downloadfestival.co.uk

DOWNLOAD THE REGISTRATION FORM NOW- Access to the arena from the car park and campsite is via a tarmac road. Track will be laid from the disabled customer entrance all the way to the main stage viewing platform, though we are unable to extend this to the 2nd and 3rd stage platforms for health and safety reasons.
Viewing platforms are available at the main, 2nd and 3rd stages only and have a strict one plus one policy (disabled customer + their carer). Non-disabled customers may be asked to leave the platform when it is busy to avoid overcrowding and we ask all customers to be considerate of others needs.
We will provide access to the viewing platforms for all disabled customers that need use of this facility. This includes, though not exclusively, wheelchair users, customers who are unable to stand for long periods and customers unable to be in large crowds.
There are accessible toilets located in most toilet blocks on the site, and specifically by the viewing platforms. When the site layout is confirmed, we shall post the exact locations of all disabled customer toilets here. The disabled customer campsite is available to customers who are unable to camp in the standard campsites or who need access to the specialist facilities we provide.
You are welcome to camp with your friends, though I’m afraid we must limit this due to restrictions on space. In addition to the disabled customer and their carer, we will permit three more friends in your group. Please ensure you make us aware should you wish to camp with your friends so they are provided with the appropriate wristbands on arrival. Failure to notify us of this may result in us being unable to accommodate your friends on the day.
The disabled customer campsite is much nearer to the festival arena (c0.5 miles to the main stage viewing platform). The campsite is more spacious and has track laid where possible to improve accessibility for wheelchair users and customers with mobility disabilities.
Accessible showers and toilets are provided, along with a secure fridge for any medication that may need to be kept cold. Charging facilities are provided for electric wheelchairs or scooters on a first come first served basis. We also have a HDU which is a High Dependency Unit containing a raised bed with a hoist above, it also has a sink and toilet. Please note that hoist slings will not be available. If you wish to use this unit please bring your own slings.Cars can also be parked next to tents if required, though we are unable to offer this to everyone due to restrictions on space. Any cars moved from the campsite can be parked in the disabled customer car park.
Anyone who wishes to bring their campervan/caravan into the disabled customer campsite will require a Disabled Access campervan supplement ticket. These tickets are priced at £60 plus fees and are available through our booking line on: 0207 195 2133. Anyone who turns up on the day without a campervan supplement ticket will be charged accordingly and/or may not be permitted onto the disabled customer campsite.
PLEASE NOTE: Gas stoves/cylinders are NOT permitted in the disabled customer campsite in 2012, other than those professionally fitted in caravans/campervans.
The recommended cooking stoves are any solid fuel type such as:
Disposable BBQ’s
Hexi Stove with solid fuel blockPetrol fuelled cookers and generators will not be permitted in any campsite.

Trying to get to the festival in an environmentally friendly way, but still want to do more? Donate a few pence to negate the carbon emitted by travelling to the festival and we’ll invest it all into environmental projects at local schools.
Climate change is a pressing global issue. Nevertheless, there are things that we can all do.
We are committed to encouraging and providing more sustainable transport options to Download Festival where possible, and would also like to offer customers the opportunity to negate their unavoidable carbon emissions associated with travelling to this event by investing in environmental projects in schools around Donnington Park.
If you would like to participate in this scheme, there is an option to add 50p to your order on the shipping page. Schools in the local area will be coming up with their projects for the funds, these will then be detailed on www.downloadfestival.co.uk and we’ll choose one to support.
Eco-Schools are an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, providing a framework to help embed these principles into the heart of school life.
For more information on Eco-Schools please go to www.eco-schools.org.uk- Our official coach travel partner National Express have been working with festivals and events for over 20 years to carry thousands of people all over the country - so they really are the experts! They will again be providing fantastic services from all over the UK direct to the Download festival site.
Here's a few reasons why you should take the coach...
1. It's direct - you'll get dropped off and picked up from the festival site.
2. You won't have to listen to the woman on the sat nav or try reading an upside map whilst driving - the lovely drivers at National Express know exactly where they're going.
3. You'll be tired - after a weekend of late nights it's going to be safer letting someone else do the driving.
4. The fun can begin as soon as you get on the coach - it will be full of your fellow festivalers.
6. It's greener - everyone on a coach instead of separate cars means less of an impact on the environment.
